Shoes ( special footwear )
The art of designing, manufacturing, fitting, and modifying shoes and related foot appliances for the treatment of different disorders of the foot by employing biomechanical principals is called orthotics.
Orthotist is a practitioner who fills the special footwear prescriptions for patients with foot disorders. It should be pointed out that the Canadian Certified Orthotist , C.O.© is a highly trained personnel, frequent conducted various workshops and seminars to other healthcare professionals and publics, close association with orthopaedic surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists ( Physiatrist ), knowledge of the book, clinical experience, and possession of a large stock of orthopaedic shoes and designs of various sizes.
Functions of shoe ( special footwear )
Shoes are the important function of the lower limb orthosis. Shoes are used to protect and warm the feet, transfer body weight while walking, and reduce pressure or pain through redistributing weight. Shoes should be comfortable and properly fitted. They should be at least 1 cm longer than the longest toe and correspond to the shape of the feet.
Special footwear construction
The fabrication of an average pair of special footwear commonly requires 150 or more steps, over 20 different chemicals and measurements. Leather, cotton, lien, wool, felt, nylon, rubber, EVA, plastics and metals in various combinations are used in all the shoes.
The customed made special footwear can be divided into lower and upper parts. The lower part consists of the sole, shank, ball, toe, spring, and the heel. The upper part include the quarter, heel counter, vamp, toe-box. tongue and throat.
